| YOUTH TALK |
If we look at the talk on climate change on Friday 20 November organized by UNICEF and UNDP Malaysia in collaboration with Project VOCAL of Eco Knights and the Ministry of Environment and Water Malaysia ago, we can hear many revelations made by all panel members about the adverse effects of climate change especially on our beloved country, Malaysia. Deputy Minister Environment and Water Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad mentioned in his speech that, we as responsible citizens need to take this matter as important especially for ourselves as well as for our generation after us. In the 2021 budget, the government has allocated RM 2 billion for Green Technology Financing for a good enough initiative to curb this problem. In our beloved country Malaysia, we have about 3.3 million youths who can change this climate change for the better. Youth is an agent of change to the country. “Better environment for future generation”.
Furthermore, other panels also mention that from the review of the country's climate change that has been carried out by several organizations. Surveys show that 43% are youths and 90% of them have taken action. This means that youths are now beginning to realize their responsibilities, not only learning but also being able to recover from normal situations. Furthermore, 92% of the population has been aware of this climate change for years. "Oh Man! You are the chosen one, you must bring balance to earth" (Miss Nabilah).
If we look at the efforts made by the United Nation (UN) which is sustainable development goals (SDG) , it is a good effort to restore this climate change around the world. Climate change is the 13th goal of climate action which is to stand heating to below 1.5oC and to avoid the worst effects of climate change, science demands that greenhouse gas emissions must increase immediately, and drop to zero by 2050. At CDP, we request information on climate risk and low carbon opportunities from the world's largest companies on behalf of more than 650 institutional investors, and encourage companies to take ambitious actions such as setting carbon prices or science-based emissions reduction targets.
As a conclusion from this talk, we as human beings, we will be weak if we move on our own, so if we want to change something, we need to join a group or organization that we can work with to change something big. For example, at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) we have an IIUM Eco Club that takes the initiative to solve this problem. Furthermore, this climate change is also a human right as mentioned by Bro Aidil in his speech. In the end, the earth is a gift from God, so let us work together as a group to take action to restore order. "Climate change: our shared responsibility".
